Testicular Cancer Center at Helios Bad Saarow
The Testicular Cancer Center at Helios Bad Saarow is a specialized unit dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of germ cell tumors of the testis and rare urogenital malignancies in men. The center is integrated within the Department of Urology and operates under an interdisciplinary model with the mandatory involvement of oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and specialists in reproductive medicine.
The center provides treatment for the full spectrum of testicular tumors, including seminomas and non-seminomatous germ cell tumors, malignancies with metastatic involvement of lymph nodes and distant organs, recurrent disease, as well as rare germ cell and stromal tumors.
The diagnostic protocol includes assessment of tumor markers (AFP, β-hCG, LDH), scrotal ultrasound with Doppler imaging, CT of the chest, abdomen, and retroperitoneum for staging, as well as histological verification with immunohistochemical analysis, among other procedures.
The gold standard surgical procedure is radical inguinal orchiectomy with oncological control of resection margins. When indicated, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) is performed, including nerve-sparing techniques aimed at preserving ejaculatory function. Minimally invasive and laparoscopic approaches are applied in clinically justified cases to reduce perioperative morbidity and accelerate patient recovery.
For metastatic and high-risk disease, modern cisplatin-based chemotherapy regimens (e.g., the BEP protocol) are administered in close collaboration with the Department of Oncology.
